How To Attain Emotionally Healthy Spirituality

Learning to attain emotionally healthy spirituality happens in three different stages, though these can often overlap. During the first of these, you begin to understand your environment and its realities. This understanding is highlighted by being in the present rather than worrying about the future or the past. The second stage is marked by your feelings of connection to those things that surround you such as nature, animals, or other people. The final stage happens when you realize that you aren’t connected to everything that surrounds you. Instead, you are everything.

Now that you know the three stages of becoming reaching emotionally healthy spirituality, you might be wondering how to reach them. There are different ways to learn to have an emotionally mature life. It’s important to remember,  not every method will work for every person. The list below gives you some ways to start improving your emotional health.

1. Practice Honesty

Many people try to be as honest as possible during their lives. What might be more difficult is being honest with yourself. Looking at yourself and thinking about what you should change in order to be true to yourself is an important part of the process of attaining emotionally healthy spirituality. It’s only through this lens of honesty that you can heal your inner problems and set yourself up for the changes that are to come.

2. Rein in Your Ego

Being the kind of person who is spiritual means that you’re caring and kind. It can sometimes be difficult to rein in your ego when society supports that kind of behavior. Being humble enough to apologize and admit your wrongdoings can make your relationships stronger and bring others to respect you.

3. Forgive

Extending forgiveness to those who have hurt you to your very core can be hard to do. It’s a necessary step in having an authentic life. By not forgiving them, you hold onto your anger and hurt. It’s not possible to move on past the situation without forgiving them. It’s important to remember that just because you forgive someone, you aren’t saying that their behavior is okay. You’re simply deciding to rid yourself of the hold it has on your emotions. Be sure to also forgive yourself for those mistakes that you’ve made so you can live wholeheartedly in the present.

4. Face Your Fears

Everyone is fearful of something — sometimes many things! The key to attaining emotionally healthy spirituality is to not allow those fears to hold you back from living the life you want to live. By not giving into your fears and allowing them to control your life, you can live a more spiritual life. This isn’t to say that you have to pretend that you aren’t afraid of failing or taking a risk. It simply means that you develop a strength that allows you to push past those fears on your way to the authentic life you want.

5. Make Time to Meditate

Meditation is the key to becoming aware of your inner self. Its purpose is to shed the external noises and stimuli that make it difficult to get in tune with yourself. Different types of meditation require different input from you. One of the most popular is sitting meditation which almost everyone can perform. It involves simply sitting in a particular posture and concentrating on staying that way. This allows your mind to become free of other thoughts and ideas.

6. Practice Yoga

The ancient practice of yoga — much like the ancient practice of meditation — is designed to help you gain an inner peace and calmness. Like meditation, there are many forms of yoga. The appeal of yoga for many is that almost anyone can do it. Yoga is also very flexible because it can be adjusted to your own fitness and comfort level. Yoga places the focus on your gentle movements and breathing. It’s designed to keep outside thoughts and noises at bay while you concentrate on your own thoughts.

If you talk to someone who has already attained emotionally healthy spirituality, it’s likely that they weren’t born as an enlightened person.
